Foodland - 12/10

I  usually don't shop at Foodland, especially the one I went in yesterday, but it was the most convenient on my way home from Sam's Club.  As usual, my I am only going to get 1 or 2 items (this time hamburger buns and tomatoes) turned into a bigger shopping trip.  I always seem to have trouble at this store.

First, the scanner would only accept 1 of the 3 coupons I had for the Betty Crocker Boxed Potatoes even though it said "any boxed potatoes any flavor".  When this happened I told them to take 4 of the boxes off.  Well, the cashier had trouble getting them to clear from the order so someone else had to take care of it.

Second, I thought what I was asked to pay seemed higher than it should have so I checked my receipt and sure enough it only showed 3 of the potatoes instead of 4 being voided.  Of course they had to check themselves and then the manager told her to give me a dollar back.  While waiting for my dollar, I asked why I could only use one of my coupons instead of all 3.  She really didn't have a good answer other than "Well, the system would only let you use 1".

Third, another manager came by as she was leaving for the day.  The first manager asked her about the coupons and this manager said:  "She probably didn't buy what the coupon was for, see you can only use it for what is on the picture, go ahead and let her use it"  I asked why it had to be what was on the picture when it said "any boxed potatoes any flavor" and of course I had to add "I've never had this trouble at Kroger" to which she replied "this is Foodland, not Kroger, I told her to let you use it" and then she walked off in a big huff.  (I SO love getting into it over coupons, especially when I know I'm right)

So I got my dollar back and then bought my other 4 boxes.

Fourth, I was happy until a few minutes ago when I checked my savings.  I found out that the 3 boxes of potatoes that was voided really wasn't subtracted from my receipt, it only said voided.  I actually have 2 receipts for this trip.  I paid $16.39 for my first transaction and $2 for my second transaction for a total of $18.39.  I was refunded $1 so I actually gave the store $17.39.  According to my calculations I should have only paid $16.39 total.

Fifth, during all of this I forgot that if you purchased 3 boxes of Betty Crocker Potatoes you were supposed to get a $2 catalina.  Well, I DIDN'T GET IT!!!

Oh well, this is a reminder of why I don't go to this particular store very often.

Here's my list for this trip

Since I actually paid $17.39 ($16.39-$1refund+$2 for the other 4 boxes) I will base my savings on that amount.  I still had a 41% savings, not too bad, but I had to get really upset with them too.  If I had paid $16.39 it would have been a 47% savings, and if I had gotten my catalina it would have been a 54% savings.  That would have met my goal (50% or greater savings) I was aiming for.

I guess it could have been worse, I could have paid for the 4 boxes of potatoes that I didn't get which was what almost happened.
