5/12/11 - Car Day

No shopping today because it is a car day.  All 3 of our cars are broken.  My SUV started acting up while Chris was out last night.  He said he thought it was the transmission.  When he pulled in the driveway he also noticed that the light was on inside the cab of his truck.  The only way he could get it to go out was to disconnect the negative battery cable.  The driver side headlight has also been burnt out for a while.  In addition to this, it seems that the car may be having ignition control module issues.

The SUV has to have the transmission rebuit.  The guys at AAMCO said that the transmission won't shift into 3rd gear.  I'm not looking forward to the bill on this one.

The button that signals that the door is open or closed on the passenger side door of the truck failed.  The guys at the Ford Dealership said the the little mechanism broke and they would have to order the part to replace it.  They also got the headlight replaced and had to do a little bit of work on the wiring because it was messed up too.  There was also a recall on the cruise control wiring and they replaced that too (this part was free).  So, to replace a headlight and find out that a switch had failed cost us $106.  The light bulb was only $15.88, the rest was labor.  We also have to come back to pick up and pay for the part that was ordered ($12.50) and if we want them to install it pay for labor also ($42.50).  All this on a 17 year old truck.

The car is doing ok now.  It can't really be checked because it is running fine right now and there are no codes to be read by the computer.  We will just have to wait and see what happens with it.  In the mean time that's what I'm going to have to drive to work this weekend.  I really do hope that it doesn't break down in the middle of the road on me at 5am on my way to work.
